FAA Private Pilot Prep App Reviews
unreliable
Too many mistakes in charts and answers.
I tried this software out for the PPL and will continue to use Dauntless software for my forecoming FAA tests. It has proven to be extremely comprehensive and accurate- I did not encounter a single question that wasn’t in the software. Apart from the fact I scored 97% I can say it helped me to fully grasp what the FAA is after in every question, which is answered and explained in depth. Anything you have read about the syllabus and the quality of the answers is absolutely true. Keep the good work up guys!
ground school
Super easy to use with great explanations. Thanks guys!
Customer Service
Horrible very rude customer service. Save your money and stick to the books.
Doesn’t work with the current version of OS 10.9 - and therefore a waste of money. Now I get to figure out how to get a refund instead of studying. Great.
i found this program verry simple to use helped me alot with my studyes, really like the up to date question that most book style don’t have i would recomen purchsing it
I really appreciate the company making this program available for Macs and iPhones. My flight instructor has reccommended this app to me, and from the questions Ive been asked so far theyre really helpful. You can set it up so when you answer something wrong, it gives you the right answer but also includes why. I think thats a great teaching tool. For anyone else who does self study for the knowledge test, this program will work!
I have found this app to be a great tool for reviewing the multiple subjects on the FAA Private Pilot exam. Beyond having the ability to take practice tests, this app goes into depth regarding the answers and there are plenty of custom images that they have created to better visualize and learn. I must also admit that their support team is awesome and answer questions in a timely fashion.
The only things missing are the ability to track scores/progress/etc and getting a testing endorsement. I already had my testing endorsement but hadnt touched any academic material for awhile. I already had Sportys software so I took a practice test on that and scored a 60%. I bought this software 3 days ago with the intent fo taking the test today and I did. I got an 85% (passed). It’s otherwise easy to use. The measurement tool seem to be intermittent and not always work right or the best, but I had a plotter and a book I bought off amazon with the figures I could use in the tests involving distances and plotting. What I really wanted was the ability to track areas (over several uses) that I was weak on, what I was scoring on the full practice exams over time, etc. It would have been nice to be able to track that on Friday I was hitting 62% of questions right and on Sunday prior to the test I got an 88% and everything in between but it loses that when you close it. You can’t beat the ease of use and explanation though. If you’re having trouble with a concept, the manner that this software uses to detect and teach is great.
This is a great app that I expect will prepare me well for the FAA written. Everything seems very clear and concise. I really enjoy the feature that allows me to print questions I missed, so that I may take them with me and study on the go. A major plus. Overall, it’s a must-have for anyone studying for their private written.
Finally a self paced Ground School thats put together exactly that way I wanted! I have evaluated (and purchased) other one’s but they were clumsy, difficult to navigate and the reference materials were in separate sections. Here it is laid out all together and I learned more here than on all the others combined in the first 2 hours! The learning style is perfect with all the different ways to deliver content. When having to look at charts, graphs or do calculations, all the tools built into the app make it easy and useful. There is even a built in E6B to use! If you are working on your Private Pilot or just want to stay sharp. This is the app for you! Plus the price is amazing too!
I searched and reviewed several sources for home ground school study before settling on this program and I’m very satisfied. The structure of the program includes actual test questions that can be presented in a variety of ways. There are detailed explanations for every question which helps understand the questions rather than just relying on memorization. There are clear and descriptive graphics relevant to questions requiring visual aid. My one request is some sort of glossary or description of aviation terms that are new for people unfamiliar with these references (like me). I mentioned this to Customer Support and they immediately replied and thanked me for the suggestion. I checked with them a while later to find that they’re actually working on implementing a feature like this. A company that listens to its customers! That alone is worth the rating. Affordable, effective, responsive customer support. Thumbs up from me.
The good: It does basically work. The content is correct, the questions are accurate, the explanation texts are mostly helpful (although the ones that just excerpt the FARs and bold a line or two are kind of lazy.) I got 97% (missed 2) on my written, after using it. So a few stars for that. The bad: as software, oh my, is this dire. The UI feels like a bad port of mid-90s Windows software, or an early "frames" website. The "pile" system is unclear and did not seem to do anything. Likewise the "mark" or "favorite" buttons. Question search by learning statement code (to review the missed questions) does not work at all. Question search by text is unhelpful: search results can only be viewed by starting a full test (review notes are hidden til everything is answered.) Questions were repeated without any indication of why, or if there was some system to it. Theres a checkbox to "try" to avoid repeating questions - what? Scrolling was slow and jerky, and the Figures frame scrolled when resized (content attached to the bottom). And so on and so on. This would function better as a book, or set of physical flash cards, than as an app. Get a proper UI expert to clean up the spec, and an actual Mac programmer to implement it, and then you might have something. I as a developer would be embarrassed to release this.
My instructor recommend this app for the PAR knowladge test and he was right! You learn fast, it has very clear explanations and covers the intire FAA PAR program. It is an intuitive software, and now with the last update it looks cooler. The custumer support team is great and they are always trying to help you in any ways possible. If you want to study and learn, this is the app.
